Resting up today after a fabulous weekend at Artswells Festival. I feel like I am still wandering in dream state after so much music and campfire and intensely beautiful conversations and hugs and musician-to-musician love. Now I am spending a quiet day eating pancakes and drinking coffee and catching up on emails and blog posts.

I am a lover of festivals in general and Artswells is particularly special to my heart. Four years ago I attended my first one (this year marked their 10th year anniversary), and I keep getting drawn back – I even moved to the area to live for two years because the sense of community is so deliciously strong that I wanted to soak in it for longer than a weekend. It was here in the Cariboo where I sat on a porch and wrote a bunch of songs for the new album.

This year – as always – there were so many highlights and deeply moving experiences (along with silliness and NOT much sleep) that to put in in words would probably turn this into an extraordinarily long list song and I’m thinking I’d be better to rest my voice for tomorrow’s show at Rolla’s (see the post above for details about that.) So let me instead glow silently as I rest up my weary body. I will share with you one image I found posted on Facebook from a particularly touching moment to me… singing Be My Girl with the full choir arrangement during my Saturday afternoon set:

That’s Trina, George, Annie, Allyson and Sarah to my stage left “ooooohing” it up. (Patrick and Daniel are singing too, just out of frame on the other side.) Photo Credit: Shadowbox Images

Thank you, Artswells and all who were there, for bolstering my musical soul and returning my sense of wonder. xox k

Sorry to be so brief here, but not only am I doing all that fabulous prep stuff related to launching my new CD this fall (woooo hoooo!), but at this particular moment I am also stage managing one of the plays at the Toronto Fringe Festival! (A super great show by casebolt and smith from LA called O(h). Check it out if you can!!)

And so, I will be updating show listings page soon with specifics, but for now here is an overview of where I’ll be for the next eight months:

AUGUST 2013:
Central north BC, Artswells.

SEPTEMBER 2013:
(Traveling to) Japan

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2013:
MORE THAN A HERO launch shows in Ontario, OCFF official showcase. Toronto Launch date: Thursday October 24th.

FEBRUARY 2014:
Yukon (Homeroutes)

MARCH 2014:
Europe ~ Germany, Netherlands and Switzerland.

*phew*

While these tours are mostly set up already, there may be wiggle room for an extra show or two here and there. So, if you are in one of those areas (or you feel like setting up short tour in another region nearer to you), and would like me to come to your town to play… fire me off an email with your proposal! bookings@karynellis.com

Folks!!!! I heard some exciting news when I got home from a bike ride on Toronto Island tonight. I have been offered a hard-to-get showcase at this year’s Ontario Council of Folk Festivals conference.

OCFF is an annual four-day/night “tradeshow” for people in the music industry – we meet up, we hang out, we play for and with each other all in the name of business.

And I am *highly* honoured to be among a select number of artists (24 in total!) who are given the opportunity to play in front of and connect with hundreds of festival bookers, concert series presenters, artist directors and promoters who will be there over the course of the weekend. These are the very people who book all those fabulous fun festivals and stuff that you love to see!

As a bonus the conference happens in October — exactly when I am launching the new album in Ontario! Auspicious way to start, me thinks.

You can bet I am wearing a double happy grin face tonight! xo

Hurray! Today I got up extra special early and went to the post office with over 125 bubble envelopes full of copies of the new album!!!!

Where I met Boris, who was very enthusiastic when he heard what was in the packages!

We filled four bins (the other one is on the other side of the room…. but trust me, that one was overflowing too.)

He had to grab extra bins from the back room.

And so Boris (the Post Office guy) and I said a cheer: "Good luck, little album! Off you go into the world!"
