I’m in Toronto staying with friends a few blocks away from the studio where – starting Monday morning – we will be spending the next couple of weeks finishing up the tracking for More Than A Hero.

And while I’m ensconced in the depths of the recording process, I thought it would be neat to introduce to you some of the people who are the creative sparks behind the making of the album…

Here is the first interview in a new series on my blog. Introducing… Justina Smith! CLICK HERE to read the interview. Meet this lovely visual artist from Edmonton Alberta. She is painting original artwork for the cover of the new album!

And now you know where some of your money is going! Three beautiful pieces of commissioned, original art. So…
Jump In! Be a Backer! And support this awesome independent endeavor! There is still plenty of time to get involved and to pre-order your early-release copy of the album.

“BC Rivers Day is a province-wide event, held every year on the last Sunday in September (Sept 23rd for 2012 in Prince George). Established in 1980 and coordinated by the Outdoor Recreation Council (ORC), it has been proclaimed by communities across BC and attracts over 75,000 people to more than 100 events each year.

The success of this event in BC has also recently led to the establishment of a “National Rivers Day” – and as part of the UN Water for Life Decade starting in 2005, a new “World Rivers Day” will be celebrated each September. This will use BC Rivers Day as a model and concurrent river-related events will take place in a number of different countries.”

“What happens when some of Canada’s leading singers and songwriters are inspired to compose and perform original songs from a recent work of fiction? You experience a once in a lifetime, late-night celebration of sound and story.Torn from the Pages is the brainchild of singer-songwriter-bestselling author, Dave Bidini, and in this Vancouver rendition of a Toronto tradition Timothy Taylor’s The Blue Light Project is the inspiration. From songs to essays, new narratives to tone poems, Bidini and his outstanding line-up of musicians and writers will delight with eight new pieces provoked by Taylor’s epic work of terrorism, media and sport.”

With Authors: Dave Bidini, Grant Lawrence, Zsuzsi Gartner, Colin Browne, Timothy Taylor and Musicians: Selina Martin, Veda Hille, Geoff Berner, Brendan McLeod, Karyn Ellis.

Look at these folks jumping in the old fashioned way to support the album! Thanks Liz & Neville, Amy M, Sheila & Ishwar, Amy I, … and the Molesisters (who also included those fabulous temporary tattoos and a $0.05 Canadian Tire bill in the envelope. Sweet!)

Of course there are lots of you who prefer computers to paper, and that’s awesome too! I’m not sure a screenshot from paypal would be all that attractive, but I am equally impressed by your generosity! You rock! :)

Visit my Jump In – Be a Backer! for details on how you can contribute to the new album via paypal, electronic email transfer… and of course, good ol’ pen, paper & post office!
