Rust

© Karyn Ellis

Oh my little four-leaf clover
Now it’s over, and I need
All the luck that I can find.

You came to me when I wasn’t searching
So certain I wore your ring.
And I thought that you were mine.

And we tried to make time stop for us.
Don’t know why, but the shine turned to rust.

Days stretched out in purple flowers
We lay for hours in the field
Of summer blues and green.

There I learned each contour of you
Every part entwined with me
Every kisses endless and sweet.

CHORUS

Now on my left ring finger
There lingers the faintest line
Of skin untouched by the sun.

And as the turning leaves are falling
And autumn comes in kind
I know in time it will be gone.

CHORUS X2

Oh my little four-leaf clover
Now it’s over, and I need
All the luck that I can find.
