Even Though The Sky Was Falling

© Karyn Ellis

Nobody knows what they had
But everyone’s sure that they’ve lost.
Counting the days like pennies spent,
Like paying rent instead of owning your own.

Oh but to have one beautiful day more
With you and me happy again.

Nobody’s sure of the words
But everyone knows just how it goes.
Under their breath humming along,
This secret song – this timeless record of you.

Oh but to have one beautiful day more
With you and me happy again.

We grabbed our bikes and we rode through the city
When the sky turned dark with silver, and it crashed with gold.
We were laughing; we didn’t care.
We pedaled faster into the wind – we let it carry us away.

And I thought we’d make it home.
I thought we’d make it.
I thought we’d make it home
Even though the sky was falling.

Oh but to have one beautiful day more
With you and me happy again.
