KARYN ELLIS/ANN VRIEND at the London Music Club

The London Music Club hosts a folk-pop double bill tonight with Karyn Ellis and Ann Vriend.

Toronto-based balladeer Ellis writes lush, parlour-style ditties -- adorned with delicate piano, strings and upright bass -- that hark back to decades past. Last fall, the former opera student released her debut full-length Hearts Fall, and she has shared bills with Jill Barber and Mia Sheard.

Ellis is joined by Edmonton pal Vriend, who drops some silky soul into her roots-based pop. Her second disc, Modes of Transport, helps to further spread her whimsical, sometimes jazzy compositions.
